Frequently asked questions
What kind of training does NK9I provide?
At Nomad K9 Institute, we provide elite dog training programs designed for both pet owners and working-dog professionals. Our services include obedience, behavior modification, protection, detection, and tracking. We blend real-world experience, tactical precision, and balanced training methods to bring out each dog’s full potential.
What does “balanced training” mean at NK9I?
Balanced training means using both positive reinforcement and fair, humane corrections. We reward good behavior to build motivation and confidence, while also providing structure and boundaries to create clarity. This approach produces dogs that are not only obedient, but calm, confident, and dependable under pressure.
What types of tools and methods do we use?
Our trainers use proven, ethical tools to communicate clearly with each dog. This may include leashes, toys, food, slip leads, prong collars, and/or e-collars, depending on the program and temperament.
Is balanced training safe & humane?
Yes — safety and respect are at the core of everything we do. We never use intimidation or fear. Our corrections are calm, clear, and fair, creating an environment where the dog understands what’s expected and thrives with confidence. The goal is always clarity, trust, and clear communication. Not submission.
What kinds of dogs do we work with?
We work with dogs of all breeds, ages, and temperaments — from playful puppies to reactive or aggressive adults. Whether your dog needs basic obedience, behavior modification, or structured socialization, we can help.
How long does training take?
Every dog is unique! Training length depends on your dog’s needs, goals, and consistency at home. We’ll assess your dog during the consultation and provide a personalized training plan with realistic expectations.
Do we offer board and trains or private lessons?
Yes.
Private Lessons: You and your dog train together with our instructors, learning step-by-step techniques you can use at home.
Board & Train Programs: Designed for busy owners or dogs with serious behavior issues. We do the heavy lifting — your dog trains with us full-time, learning obedience, confidence, and structure. You focus on keeping the progress strong through guided maintenance once your dog comes home.
We’ll help you decide which option best fits your goals and lifestyle.
What results can I expect?
Most clients see calmer, more responsive dogs who respect commands, remain composed under distraction, and perform with reliability.
While no dog is “perfect,” NK9I provides a professional-level standard of training and ongoing support to help you sustain results for life.
